Finura was inspired by American lettering from the 60's, especially “Stunt Roman for Ruling Pen and Compass” as presented in the Speedball Textbook for Pen & Brush Lettering by Ross F. George, but also by looking carefully to University Roman characteristics. Finura is an exercise in very thin poster typefaces and the possibilities contained in designing extremely delicate typefaces. Finura possesses plenty details, and a sheer simplicity and readability found in those classic forms.Each weight of Finura contains over 800 glyphs, with extensive OpenType features. Numerous double-cap ligatures, and inset caps, Standard and discretionary ligatures, swash lowercase, discretionary alternates, fractions and symbols.
About the designer:
Dino dos Santos was born in 1971, Porto, Portugal. Graduated in Graphic Design at ESAD-Matosinhos. Awarded with an MPHIL in Multimedia Arts at FBAUP, with a thesis on digital typography. Teaches Design Theory and Multimedia Project at ESAD since 1996. Created DSType in late 1994 and since then designed typefaces for corporations, magazines and cultural projects. His work is published in several publications like Computer Arts, Creative Review, Publish (Portugal), Page (Portugal), among others. Won the Creative Review Type Design Awards (2005) for the best Revival/Extension Family with Andrade.
