Milonga is one of the most characteristic dances of Argentina and it is usually compared to the tango. However, couples perform shorter and more energetic movements when dancing to the beat of milonga. While the tango evokes the idea of nostalgia, milonga conjures up more current, light-hearted memories in people’s minds.Milonguita was designed so that you can experience the passion and spontaneity of this dancing style through words. You can play with the upward and downward patterns of the letters, creating different images and textures, making texts flow smoothly and naturally, just as the warmth of milonga would.
The irregularity of the strokes conveys emotions and establishes a bond between the font and the sensitivity of the designer. The result is a typographic combination of elegance, energy and rhythm.
Milonguita comes in all popular font formats, including a OpenType version featuring plenty of alternates and a simulated random code.
About the designers:
Valeria Duarte is a Graphic Design student at the Instituto Superior de Diseño Aguas de la Cañada, in Córdoba, Argentina. Milonguita is her first typographic work. She is interested in calligraphic and handwritten fonts and tries to focus on the sensitivity of the letter and its capacity to convey emotions through the expressiveness of shapes and counters. She spends her free time painting and drawing, working with aquarelles, pastels, carbon and pencil. By combining both design and fine art, she applies a wide variety of resources allowing her to produce more complex, varied, and creative results - which are both authentic and spontaneous.
Ale Paul is one of the founders of the Sudtipos project, the first Argentinean type foundry collective.
Ale’s career as an art director landed him in some of Argentina’s most prestigious studios, and handling such high-profile corporate brands as Arcor, Procter & Gamble, SC Johnson, Danone, and others. With the founding of Sudtipos in 2002, Ale shifted his efforts to typeface design, creating fonts and lettering for several top packaging agencies, along with commercial faces.
In 2006 he was a speaker at TMDG06, the largest Latin American graphic design event in history - more than 4,000 designers were in attendance. He has also taught seminars and spoken at the TypoBerlin, TypeCon, and AtypI conferences, at the Type Directors Club in New York City, and at events in Portugal, Chile, Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay, Mexico and Canada.
His work has been featured in publications around the globe, including Print, Step, Creative Review, Visual, Creative Arts, Novum, and many others.
